(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Some of the best math students in the county will come together this weekend for a national competition. Three of those students are from Rochester.
To many students, the thought of a math test can be downright scary. But not for Lourdes High School senior, Ian McMeeking.
'With competition math, its more creative to me," said McMeeking.
He's a member of his school's math league, and taking tests, is simply what they do.
"We all get crowded into one big room, and sit and take math tests for a couple hours," said McMeeking.
Ian's skills got him invited to the all-state math team. He, and two other Rochester students will be joining that team in Iowa this weekend for ARML, a national competition.
"To know that I'm getting down there and I'm competing against some of the best math students in Minnesota, around the country actually. It's really cool to know that," said McMeeking.
"I know that Ian works really hard outside of school, with math, so it's great to see him so successful and getting to represent Lourdes in that setting," said his advisor Kara Ehlert.
Ian actually graduates from Lourdes on Friday. So while his high school career will be finished, his love for taking math tests certainly will not.
"I'm going up to University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and so I'll be doing a math major and hopefully a music double-major," said McMeeking.
