(ABC 6 News) -- This weekend President Obama surprised troops stationed at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
At least one of those soldiers is from our area, Staff Sergeant Travis Bergland who stood directly behind the president for his speech, and got a handshake afterwards.
Bergland has been attacked four times in convoy in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his father said it was nice for the troops to get some recognition.
"I think it's really wonderful that he went and visited our soldiers because they have been working very diligently on taking down all of the different fobs, forward operating bases, that they put up for our soldiers to be deployed at, and now they are dismantling all of them," Todd Bergland, Travis's father said.
Todd said the best part for him was just being able to see his son and know he's doing okay.
