(ABC 6 News) – Campgrounds in the area are busy with people taking advantage of the warm weather and holiday weekend.
ABC 6 News went to Myre-Big Island State Park and met with weekend guests ready to explore the outdoors and take a break from everyday life.
One of those people was the Baltazar family, “We've had excellent weather projected throughout the entire weekend so campers are excited about that."
For this family it’s a tradition of coming together for the holiday weekend, "Last year we went camping and we went over in St. Michael and our tents got destroyed from a storm that came and so it kinda was traumatizing for the kids. But we decided to try it again."
This year they have better luck, "Not too many bugs, no mosquito we haven't seen any ticks or anything."
Many other families are out on campgrounds this weekend, taking a break from reality…"Well we are really city people so we are trying to branch out and do more fun things for the kids. Mainly for the kids to come out and put their ipods and ipad away, ya know, put all that stuff away."
Myre-Big Island State Park is almost full for the weekend. There are only two sites left for camping.
