(ABC 6 News) - ABC 6 News has learned that a popular teacher from Mayo High School, Jon Thorson, is resigning.
As we've reported, a handful of students put together a petition to bring Thorson back to Mayo High after they say he was removed from the school for cursing in the classroom.
But it's unclear exactly why Thorson was removed because officials from both the district and the teacher's union will not discuss his situation, citing data privacy concerns. All the district spokeswoman will says is, "every personnel matter that we deal with involves a thorough investigation."
We were unable to reach Thorson today, but according to district documents, Thorson is resigning from the district effective the end of the day on June 9th. His resignation is listed under the consent agenda for the school board's meeting on May 20th.
Interestingly, he is 1 of 18 resignations listed on the May 20th consent agenda.
