(ABC 6 News) - Plans to connect the city of St. Charles with Whitewater State Park, via a 7 mile trail, are not going to work. At least not within the current proposals.
"It certainly wasn't the news we had hoped to hear that day," said Mayor Bill Spitzer. "When a community invests as much time and energy as we have into what we view as an economic necessity, every step backwards hurts that much more,"
For the past several years, the city and the Department of Natural Resources have worked to connect the city and the park. But none of the more than 7 options, will work according to Mayo Spitzer.
For now, the DNR is moving forward to explore additional options for the community.
"While we don't like this outcome, it means that we will simply move forward in exploring the right one," says Mayor Spitzer.
