ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The family of a Winona County sheriff's investigator killed 34 years ago is disappointed his killer will be up again for parole in three years.
Relatives of John Schneider were collecting letters and emails opposing the release of John Kirch, who's in prison in Stillwater.
Kirch was convicted of fatally shooting Schneider after he and two other deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a mobile home in Goodview in September of 1980.
Kirch's application for parole was denied in June 2004, the first date he was eligible. At that time, his next parole date was set 10 years out.
KARE-TV (http://kare11.tv/1g2wN2E) reports the parole panel Monday decided to continue Kirch's prison sentence for three more years. Scheider's family had hoped his next parole date would be set at least 10 years out.
