(ABC 6 News) --  They're calling it a Marathon to Pack a Million Meals.

Hundreds of volunteers across the state partnered with a national organization called Feed My Starving Children.

In the Rochester area, the volunteers assembled thousands of packets of rice at the Evangelical United Methodist Church.

These packages will go overseas to starving children.

Together with other volunteeers in the state, they hope to pack more than a million meals.

Bishop Bruce Ough of the United Methodist Church in Rochester, describes the event, "all day long in two hour blocks and by the time we get done we hope we will have packed over 200,000 meals."

Members of the United Methodist Church in Minnesota partnered with Feed My Starving Children.

Similar events like these also took place  nationwide.

Local volunteers took part in packing a "million meals" for starving kids in over 70 countries worldwide.
