(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Albert Lea police say they've made an arrest in two early morning armed robbery attempts.

The two incidents took place Friday morning. The first just before 5 am at the Midwestern Inn. A man with a gun demanded the keys to the victim's car, but the victim locked herself in the office, so the man took off.

Police were called to the Americas Best Value Inn a little before 7 am for nearly an identical report.  The suspect was trying to steal a vehicle that wouldn't start.

Thanks to a citizen tip, police were able to locate the suspect.

They took Armando Gonzales, 52, of Wisconsin into custody, charging him with aggravated robbery, attempted motor vehicle theft, tampering with a motor vehicle, and theft.

He's being held in the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center.
