(ABC 8 NEWS) -- Although you might not know it, one of the nation's best airshow teams is based in Owatonna.

The team at John Klatt Airshows travels all across the country, performing in front of millions of people worldwide, and on Thursday they took ABC 6 News reporter John Doetkott up in one of their high performance aerobatic planes to put him through his paces.

With more than 20 years military experience, Lt. Col. John Klatt said he’s honored to be doing what he loves.

"I've been blessed to fly, and fly for my nation,” Lt. Col. Klatt said. “Flying F16's in Iraq, three tours, and in the Air National Guard."

Lt. Col. Klatt said the Plenz S-330 airplane he flies in his shows is comparable to those he uses in his military service.

"These airplanes are very nimble, they're very powerful, and very wild. They do the wildest maneuvers there are,” Lt. Col. Klatt said. “These are some of the best airshow airplanes in the world today."

The John Klatt Airshows team will make one Minnesota performance this year, appearing August 23rd and 24th at the Duluth Air and Aviation Expo in Duluth.
