(ABC 6 News) – Police say a man on trial for assault and domestic abuse, attacked a witness inside an Olmsted County courtroom.

Authorities say it happened right around 3pm Tuesday in Courtroom 7.

They say as the witness was walking out of the courtroom, Armando Rodriguez jumped up and punched him 5 times. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says Rodriguez then said something along the lines of, “it needed to be done.” They also tell us the witness is Rodriguez’s cousin.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and charged with felony assault and first-degree witness tampering. The judge the proceeded with the trial that was taking place for Rodriquez's other alleged crimes. We’re told the jury immediately found him guilty.
