(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Think of it as a roadmap for the future.

"This is a great institution, but it's going to be greater," Riverland Community College President Dr. Adenuga Atewologun said.

“A strategic plan that lays out what we must do to do better than what we've done."

When the head of RCC gave his 2014 "State of the College" address on Monday morning, a 20 page document that took countless hours to prepare was the centerpiece.

"Notice the title of our plan is the blueprint for excellence," Dr. Adenuga Atewologun told a crowd gathered at the Riverland library to hear the speech.

“Probably in my 25 years at the college the most comprehensive plan that we've ever done," said Steve Bowron, executive director of the Riverland Foundation and member of the visioning committee.

“We were trying to answer three questions - what is our passion, what do we do best, what drives our resource engine," college president Atewologun said.

It's a far-reaching plan that identified objectives, goals and action plans in four primary areas – people, programs, market and finance.

"We want to achieve best in class status in programs through excellence in teaching, scholarships and service," Dr. Adenuga Atewologun explained.

“It's really about making sure we have the best possible workforce that's out there, and we can meet that local need," the Riverland Foundation's Steve Bowron told ABC 6.

And the best advice on *meeting* that need comes from the companies that have the need.

"To also look at where we can leverage partnerships with local individuals, businesses and companies," Bowron said.

“We cannot be everything to everybody at the same time, so we have to focus our energy and resources to what we do best, and then expand with time," said Riverland President Dr. Adenuga Atewologun.
