(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The 55th Street bridge over Highway 52, and the section of Highway 52 under the bridge, will close Friday in Northwest Rochester.
The bridge will close by 10:00 P.M. Friday, May 2nd, for both east and west bound traffic. Both north and south bound Highway 52 lanes under the bridge will also be closed for the weekend.
The closures are for the demolition of the southern portion of the Highway 52 bridge that is being widened.
The traffic on 55th St. NW will be detoured by use of both east and west Frontage Roads and 41st St. NW during the demolition work. Highway 52 traffic will be detoured in both directions up the exit ramps and then down the on ramps to skirt the bridge demolition work.
Work on the bridge will continue through the night and the weekend until demolition is finished. We're told the work could finish sometime during the weekend, if not, the detour will be over by 6:00 A.M. Monday.
Following the highway closure over the weekend, both north and south bound Highway 52 lanes will be closed for bridge construction. The inside lane closures will still provide for highway traffic on two lanes in each direction and should not greatly impact Highway traffic flow.
