(ABC 6 News) -- A former Dodge County Sheriff officer whose firing sparked a controversy could soon be working for the Kasson Police Department.

Officials with Kasson Police confirm they are looking to add Mike Leonhardt as a part-time police officer.  Those we spoke with say they would be excited to have him join them.

Leonhardt was fired in January after 26 years of service in the Dodge County Sheriff's office.  All that Sheriff Jim Jensen would say about the decision was that Leonhardt wasn't loyal.

Personnel decisisions have to be approved by the Kasson City Council first.  Leonhardt's hiring is expected to be discussed at Wednesday night's city council meeting.
