(ABC 6 News) -- At only 11 years old, a Rochester boy has made quite the name for himself. Over the weekend, Lucas Eggers won the state geography bee, and will move on to nationals.

As I sat down with Lucas at his home, I decided to start things off with a little geography session. I mean, that is what Lucas is known for.

Reporter: "To visit the ruins of Persepolis, an ancient ceremonial capital of Persia, you would have to travel to what present-day country?" Lucas: I would have to say Iran. Reporter: You got it right.

I'll admit, I'm impressed. He managed to answer nearly every question I asked him correctly. This is why Lucas is the 2014 Minnesota Geography Bee Champion.

"The final round questions were like, oh my god, those were hard," said Lucas.

It's a feat that's no surprise to his mom, Tiffany.

"He loves the topic, and he's basically been preparing since he was three years old, so he had just as good of a shot as anybody," said Tiffany.

Next month, Lucas will compete at nationals in Washington D.C. But geography isn't his only claim to fame.

"They pretty much go hand in hand. When you learn history, you basically learn where history happens," said Lucas.

In the meantime, Lucas will be practicing questions, in the hopes of becoming a national champion.

Lucas isn't sure what he wants to do when he grows up, but says it will most likely relate to geography or history. And this fall, he's going to broaden his horizons, by going to study abroad in France for six months.
