Rescuers in Colorado are at a loss for where to look for a missing Minnesota father and son.

Fifty-one-year-old Damian McManus and his 18-year-old son, Evan, went on a hiking trip in Colorado and have yet to return.

Dangerous elements put that search on hold for the night Monday, but crews will continue to look for them Tuesday; the search Tuesday will include about 50 people.

On Monday, the family's mother and sister flew to Colorado to be close to the search scene. They're holding out hope for a reunion.

Back in St. Louis Park, counselors were on hand at the high school where Evan is a senior to talk classmates through their feelings.

"It's really hard for us to be missing him," senior Maggie Yarosh said. "He's such a great guy, and he has a presence in class."

Evan is on the varsity soccer team. Chato Alvarado, who coaches Evan, has known both the father and son for years; Damien calls home games over the radio while Evan plays.

"Evan is an awesome kid," Alvarado said. "A son that any father would love to have."

In sports, as in life, they liked to do things together, including trekking through the mountains.

Since they disappeared Sunday, the National Guard got involved with a helicopter, scent dogs, planes, snowmobiles, snowshoers, and skiers to help in the search.

Given that Damian has a military background, crews are checking to see if they might have dug holes in the blizzard-type conditions and hunkered down.

A fund for the family has been set up at the Citizens Independent Bank in St. Louis Park. See a Facebook page for them here.
