(ABC 6 News) -- Menards will be opening a new location just off Highway 52 in the north side of Rochester on April 8th.
"It just seems to be the way Rochester's growing and we wanted to be out here first," said Menards general manager Eric Ritter.
It's not the first business to open on the north side of the city lately. One of Olmsted Medical Center's newest clinics and Costco have opened in the north side in the past couple years. A new Hy-Vee and McDonald’s are also on the way for the northwest side of Rochester. Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce interim president, Jerry Williams, says business is booming not just in the North, but in all parts of the city.
"We just witnessed the opening of a new hotel on the South side of Rochester, we're got a new hotel and McDonald's going in on the west side of Rochester near Costco, we've got the new Menards opening up, we've got the new furniture store area opening up where Menards used to be."
Williams calls the retail growth across the city very positive for the community.
"We just needed more space. We tripled in size, just needed some more room to grow," said Ritter.
With the new space come more jobs. Menards is expected to hire additional workers when its old store closes on April 25th.
"We have a full garden center now that's running, before we had a smaller hut, full line appliances, we carry a rental center now, we rent tools to contractors," said Ritter.
For Ritter, the new location has more to do with space, which he hopes will tip profits north for Menards.
