(ABC 6 News) -- Getting rough with the puck. The Return of the Robin is back in the Midwest. This event happens every year in the spring.

The Robins were once just a couple of old timers and ex-pros in 1981, but now it includes 19 divisions with 80 teams, pros, Olympians, and beginners.

Every division had its own skill level. Typically each division plays a round robin format with 4 teams that each played each other once. Every game had grit and the ice took a beating.

Players of all ages hit the ice from Thursday through Sunday. From 18 years old to even 60 years old, first timers, to veterans, like Ron Moffit, who’s been a participant for over a decade.

The Robin Tournament is a no-slap, no-check tournament. Many players from Minnesota to all over the Midwest reunited with former, fellow players from college, especially among the older divisions.

Players from many states consider this event to be a big reunion of sorts. Companionship exceeded competition for many of these Returning Robins.
