(ABC 6 NEWS) -- With our fluctuating temperatures we know that pothole season has arrived. Earlier this month we asked on our Facebook page where the biggest potholes were and the answer was clear – Austin’s Oak Park Mall.
“The mall parking lot is really a disaster area,” says Frank Nelson an avid mall walker.
Mall management is aware of the issue and has created a temporary fix, “we did contact a local business here that fills in potholes and so I’m having them filled in weekly,” says Shan Kehret the marketing manager for the mall.
Although Arby’s is not located in the mall, it’s customers use the parking lot and frequently complain, “usually they come in and they want to know when we are fixing our potholes and we tell them it’s not our responsibility,” says Kris Schewe general manager of Arby’s.
Two years ago ABC 6 News ran a story about the mall and asked management when the parking lot would be fixed. At the time, they said it would be improved within a year, but fast forward two years and the lot remains in disrepair. We asked the question again on Monday and mall officials say they do not know.
The mall says the potholes haven’t impacted sales but some businesses are losing customers, “a lot of people say it’s their last time coming here because of the potholes,” says Schewe.
We did reach out to the owner of the mall, Martin Gradd, for comment but our phone calls were not returned.
