Lawmakers Try Again to Finalize Tax-Cut Bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota lawmakers are trying again to push a tax relief bill through its last steps.

Democratic legislative majorities had hoped to wrap up work on Thursday but a procedural hang-up pushed the final votes into Friday. The bill includes some time-sensitive credits for income tax filers as well as some business tax repeals that are supposed to begin in early April.

Gov. Mark Dayton says he stands ready to sign the bill immediately. That would allow Department of Revenue officials to update software so people don't have to file amended returns to claim some of the breaks this year.

Among the recipients would be those eligible for working family credits, recent college graduates paying off loans and people receiving certain tuition allowances.
