(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Words hurt. And now a group is working to end one that especially hurts those with special needs.
Tena green with ARC Southeast Minnesota has a son with down syndrome.
Tena, along with ARC and Special Olympics Southern Minnesota, is working on a flash mob event called fill the heart.
They're hoping the public will join them in forming a human heart at John Marshall High School in Rochester in a few weeks to support their campaign.
"Not only are we raising awareness for our organization but also to let people know that Brady, and others like him, are just like everyone else. And when people use the 'r' word, it's hurtful and even if you're not referring to him, it still hurts him," says Tena.
Besides the human heart event, which is April 29, Special Olympics in our area is selling t-shirts for the end the 'r' word' campaign. They're ten dollars and all the information can be found here: http://www.kaaltv.com/article/stories/S3362540.shtml?cat=10225
