(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Mayo High School Spartans will get a chance to compete on the same artificial grass as the Minnesota Vikings themselves.
Rochester school officials approved a donation of the Metrodome turf and it’s on its way.
The school’s booster club is bringing in the artificial turf to the high school’s sports field. The turf is one piece of the stadium that was not destroyed and instead donated.
School officials say the turf will benefit players and help improve their abilities on the field.
“It’s a dependable playing surface in all conditions. It’s a great thing. The kids are very excited. I’ve got many emails and texts from players that are excited about that and just the whole level of excitement that it brings to the school district,” said head coach Danny Holcomb.
School leaders are currently working on upgrading all of the high school stadiums. All three public Rochester schools have expressed installing artificial turf in their stadiums in the past.
