(ABC 6 News) -- An Austin native was in the national spotlight Tuesday after his musical talents captured the attention of sports fans everywhere.

On Tuesday, Trace Bundy won ESPN’s international Fan Jam competition for recreating SportsCenter’s famous theme song.

Several of his family members still live in Austin, and they said they were overjoyed to see Trace get his moment in the sun.

"It was quite a thrill,” said Phil Bundy, Trace’s uncle. “Austin people being on the national news, that doesn't happen an awful lot.”

Trace lived in Austin until he was ten-years-old, which was right about the time he first picked up the guitar.

Trace’s uncle said his unique way of playing is a creation all his own.

"He's never had a lesson,” Phil Bundy said. “He plays by ear, of course, and just everything came naturally. He’s just got that talent, I guess."

With the notoriety sure to give Trace’s career a boost, family members said they’re excited he's getting the chance to share his talents with others.

"He's a one man guitar show up there, but in between songs and stuff he really mixes in with the crowd,” Phil Bundy said. “He's a regular old entertainer is what he is."

Bundy has played at least eight shows in Austin, including several at the Paramount Theatre.
