(ABC 6 NEWS) -- People shelling out thousands of dollars to heat their homes with propane may finally get some relief.
Lawmakers could add another $20 million into heating assistance programs for low income families.
Money would come from the Department of Commerce general fund. If it doesn't happen, the program will expire before winter is over.
"Those people who need the most heating assistance will be left without any options available to them after March 10th," said democratic representative Joe Radinovich.
The price of propane has drastically fluctuated this winter. It peaked around $6 a gallon, then fell into the $3 range.
It was $1.50 last fall. About 250,000 Minnesota homes use propane.
