Metrodome Demolition Continues Sunday

(KSTP) - Road closures, vibration, dust and noise are expected due to the demolition of the Metrodome’s final ring beam set for Sunday at 7:30 a.m.

The concrete ring beam will come down with use of controlled explosive charges. Structural and demolition experts revised the original demolition plan after a section of the ring beam collapsed on Monday out of sequence. The team determined that explosives were the safest way to demolish the last portion of the beam.

Neighbors will experience vibration, dust, and noise during and after the explosion, but experts said debris is expected to fall within the safety zone.

The public will have no access to the area 250 feet from the Metrodome.

As part of the safety perimeter, 11th Avenue, 4th, 5th, 6th Streets and Chicago Avenue will be closed beginning at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and remain closed until the “all clear.” Officials said the roads are expected to be reopened by at least 9 a.m. The Downtown East Light Rail station will also close.
