(ABC 6 NEWS) -- State safety officials say travel remains limited across southeast Minnesota.

Late this morning, Governor Dayton made an executive order freeing up the National Guard to help stranded motorists in Renville, Steele, and Freeborn counties.  The cost will be offset by general state funds.

Drifting and compacted snow is making roadways dangerous, with many limited to a single lane.

The biggest closure us Interstate 35 southbound, which is closed from Owatonna to Albert Lea. The portion from Albert Lea to the Iowa border has recently reopened.

Interstate 90 between Austin and Dexter has re-opened, however just down the road -- westbound between Dexter to Highway 63 remains closed.

Here's a look at the other temporarily closed, or impassable highways:

  • Highway 16 from Wykoff to Spring Valley
  • Highway 30 east of I-35
  • Highway 30 west of Rushford to Chatfield
  • Highway 43 between Mabel and Rushford
  • Highway 56 north of I-90 to Kenyon
  • Highway 57 from Highway 14 to Wanamingo
  • Highway 63 north of Oak Center
  • Highway 63 south of Spring Valley
  • Highway 74 north of St. Charles
  • Highway 76 north of Caledonia
