(ABC 6 News) -- We want to clarify a story we ran about the city of Austin helping pay utility bills. We incorrectly stated the city was going to offer relief on water bills. What's actually taking place is the city will offer a break on sewer bills.
This is related residents being asked to keep a trickle of water running in order to prevent pipes from freezing.
Austin Utilities, which operates water, electric, and gas, will not be offering any specific assistance at this time.
The city, which calculates summer sewer rates based on a usage average from January through May, is looking to exclude February and March due to the increased amount of water residents are expected to use. That would help offset inflated sewer rates for customers through the summer.
