(ABC 6 News) - A long, slow journey is nearly over for a giant piece of electrical equipment in Pine Island.

The 540,000 plus pound transformer, which is described as the size of your average bedroom or kitchen, is being installed into a sub-station in Pine Island as part of CapX2020 project, which will expand power capacity in southern Minnesota, from Rochester to Lacrosse, Wisconsin.

As for the transformer's slow journey, it was transported by rail to Randolph, Minnesota - just east of Cannon Falls, and then slowly driven to Pine Island. The trip from Randolph to Pine Island took 5 hours. The procession was so slow, it was only allowed to take place during the overnight hours.

The hope is that the new CapX2020 line will be up and running by May 1st.

See the effort to move such a huge piece of equipment for yourself, tonight on ABC 6 News.
