(ABC 6 News) - The Olmsted Medical Center is reporting that its employee database has been unlawfully breached.
According to spokesman Jeremy Salucka, OMC became aware of the unlawful and unauthorized electronic access to information stored in OMC's employee database on Monday. On Wednesday, OMC verified the breach involved some personal data of OMC employees.
"The breach is similar to the complex tax fraud breaches occurring throughout the world right now," says Salucka. "At this time OMC has no evidence that this breach includes any protected health information of OMC employees, their spouses/partners or dependents. We also have no evidence at this time that this data breach involves any protected health information for any of our patients."
OMC calls the breach a criminal act and is responding accordingly.
As a result, OMC says it has dedicated internal and external resources to its investigation and response. It has informed the appropriate government and law-enforcement agencies as required by law, including the FBI's Cybercrimes Division and the Internal Revenue Service.
OMC has also communicated with all its employees about the incident and has advised them to take preventive steps to protect their identities and personal information, as well as the personal information of their spouses/partners and/or dependents.
