(ABC 6 News) -- People across the world wore purple on Tuesday as a way to show support for World Cancer Day.

But in the city of Brownsdale, MN, there's never been a better time to “think pink.”

Ahead of the town's first ever Paint The Town Pink festivities this weekend, the whole town is decked out with pink decorations, including everything from pink banners to pink bras, all celebrating the fight against breast cancer.

"The community has been very supportive,” said Tina Ellis, the event’s organizer. “People are decorating that I never thought would decorate."

The spirit has become so contagious that even snowmen can be seen sporting pink scarves, and one industrious resident carved a nearly life-sized pink Cadillac out of snow.

"It's actually been overwhelming,” Ellis said. “A good overwhelming, but yeah it's just been great”

Ellis said seeing such grand decorations is emotional for her. Coming from a family with a history of breast cancer, Ellis decided to undergo a double mastectomy after doctors discovered a lump on her left side two years ago.

"I didn't tell a whole lot of people that I was going to have the surgery,” Ellis said. “After people found out they were just very supportive and it was the best decision that I ever made."

For Ellis and breast cancer survivors, they said they hope this weekend will raise not only money, but awareness as well.

"They need the money for research so bad, and we're all a living testimony to that,” said breast cancer survivor Sherrie Carlson. “So we're very thankful for all the donations."

Brownsdale started their campaign after Austin's Paint The Town Pink worked to expand to surrounding communities this year..

The group hopes to raise $2,500 dollars which will go to The Hormel Institute.
