(ABC 6 News) - The Rochester Teacher's Union is voting tonight on a new two year contract.

The vote is taking place at John Marshall High School. The new contract involves insurance changes that should balance contribution and a continuation of the current salary schedule. The head of the Rochester Education Association, Dr. Kit Hawkins, says turnout was good as of 4:30pm and that she was optimistic the contract will be approved.

"We have about 1240 members in the Rochester Education Association and we need to have a 50% plus 1 simple majority in order to ratify the contract," says Dr. Hawkins, "And a no show is a no vote, so the fact that the teachers are coming ni looks very positive..."

The vote lasts until the 6pm tonight. We'll have the results, if available, on ABC News at 10.
