(ABC 6 NEWS) -- There may be a new sheriff in town in Dodge County.
Investigator Scott Rose announced Monday night that he's going to run for the position.
After recent controversy surrounding the firing of the chief deputy, and the death of sheriff's captain Loring Guenther in September, Rose felt in necessary to step up.
"I believed that the next sheriff would likely be Loring, but you know, after he passed away things changed and we kind of reorganized and people stepped up and made a decision that it was my turn to stand up," said Rose.
Rose is a lifelong resident of the area. He’s been involved in Dodge County Law Enforcement since 1996. He’s worked as a member of the sheriff’s posse, as a patrol officer, then as a dispatcher, a patrol deputy and currently as an investigator. He said he'd always planned on running for sheriff at some point in his career. He has a background in both business and law enforcement.
He says it’s imperative the next sheriff develop relationships with outside agencies the department works with.
"You want to develop the relationships within the department obviously, but you have outside law enforcement agencies in addition to, and especially the fire departments and local ambulance crews who we work with side by side on calls every day. I mean that's a relationship that needs to be built on."
The filing date for the position is in May.
