(ABC 6 News) -- With this cold, even if you're brave enough to head outside for a workout, fitness experts say you're not doing your body any big favor.
Experts say extreme cold is tough on muscles, making them work harder to perform at the same level as they would in warmer weather. Trainers say that while you definitely want to stay active, in these temps, you may end up doing more harm than good.
"You're more susceptible to injury than you are actually getting out and running because if you don't properly stretch, you don't properly warm up those bodies, we are talking sub zero temperatures," Troy Williams, owner of Impact Martial Arts and Fitness, said.
If you are going to head outside, its advised you stretch and warm up, some even suggesting taking a hot shower to get muscles loose.
