(ABC 6 News) -- While the bitter cold is hard on all cars, these frigid temperatures are especially causing problems for those running on diesel.

With the recent extreme weather, diesel fuel can gel up and actually clog engines.

Workers at local auto parts stores said lately they've seen plenty of truck drivers running into problems.

“You can tell they're not happy when they walk through the door,” said Nick Flugum, manager at Napa Auto Parts in Albert Lea. “You can tell first thing, if they're going for that red jug of Power Service, you know they're not having good luck. It's a bad day and they know it."

Flugum said the best method is prevention.

Most auto parts stores sell a fuel additive, like Power Service, that can take care of any problems before they start.
