Sentencing in Fillmore County Animal Abuse Case

(ABC 6 News) -- A Fillmore County man convicted of animal abuse has been sentenced.

81-year-old Wilbur Schmoll received 180 days in jail and a $1,500 fine.  He will get credit for 6 days of time already served, and 150 days of that sentence is stayed for 2 years with supervised probation.

Schmoll is also prohibited from owning equine in the future without prior court approval, and even then he is limited to possessing a maximun of two.

Investigators seized 55 sick and starving horses on his farm in Le Roy.  Five of those horses had to be put down.
