4th and Final Missing Body in Winona Car Crash Found

(ABC 6 News) -- Two weeks and hundreds of man-hours later, the search for the final missing body from a Winona car crash is finally over.

It was two weeks ago when four people walked out of a Winona bar, got into their SUV, and crashed into the icy Mississippi River.

The first two bodies were pulled from the river that morning. A third, the next day.

But it took two weeks for the Winona and Carver Counties Dive and Rescue teams to find the last body -- that of 29-year old Andrew Kingsbury of La Crosse.

According to Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand, they found Kingbury's body around 3:45 Sunday afternoon, about 300 yards from where the car went into the river.

It took nearly 1,500 hundred man-hours, and about 30 surrounding agencies were involved in the search.

Some of them even volunteered their time to continue the search in an effort to give closure to Kingbury's family.

Sheriff Brand says this case eerily similar to one from back in 1997, where four St. Mary's University students and graduates were killed when their vehicle went through the ice in the exact same spot.

Also, the final body in that case, was found in the same spot where Kingbury's body was found today.

Winona and Carver Dive and Rescue Teams found the 4th missing body Sunday.
