(ABC 6 News) -- Today, Dodge County residents got the chance to see what resources their community has to offer, at least when it comes to healthy living. We attended the first ever Dodge Refreshed - Healthy Living Expo, where being healthy goes well beyond diet and exercise.

When you think about improving your health, exercise routines and changing your eating habits comes to mind.

"I never expected anything like this to be here today,” said Diana Orr, who attended the expo.

But at the healthy living expo in Dodge Center, the local resources went well beyond fitness.

"This came at a perfect time,” said Orr. For Diana Orr, her new year’s resolution was to lower her cholesterol. But the variety of nontraditional wellness resources at the expo, had her thinking about other ways to become healthy all around.

"It is important to make sure that you've got something useful to do in your free time, maybe get a hobby and stay active, especially as you get older,” said Orr.

Like for instance, doing some zentangle - or meditative doodling - with the Manorville Art Guild.

"There are a lot of these other social aspects and mental aspects that we have to be thinking about too,” said organizer Liz Olive, with Dodge Refreshed.

Liz Olive is part of Dodge Refreshed, a grassroots wellness program for Dodge County residents. Saturday's expo was their big kick off event, with organizations ranging from chiropractors, to the sheriff's department answering driving safety questions.

"When you're in a small community, you don't always realize there are numerous things out there for families to be a part of,” said Jill Hukee, who attended the expo.

The goal was to give local residents the resources they need to feel empowered in their own health. Dodge Refreshed plans to make the healthy living expo an annual event.
