(ABC 6 News) - The Wabasha County District Court of Minnesota has ruled the Wabasha County Sheriff's Safe Driving Class is "unauthorized under Minnesota State Law."
The Safe Driving Class was offered to those accused of breaking minor traffic laws. The class gave them the opportunity not to get a ticket in exchange for paying for and attending the class.
However, the court has issued a permanent injunction against the program.
Attorney Erick Kaardal, who represented the plaintiffs, says the case goes back to around 2003 and has collected more than $400,000 in tuition over that time. Kaardal believes the money should be reimbursed either to the people who took the class or the state.
Neither Sheriff Rodney Bartsh or Wabasha County Attorney James Nordstrom could be reached for comment.
