(ABC 6 NEWS) -- For one Rochester family the new year brought new life. They welcomed their baby girl just after midnight. Making her the first area baby born in 2014.
After 17 hours of labor, Katie Yager had forgotten that it was even new year’s.
"In the operating room when you look up there's a clock and it said 12:01 and everyone said happy New Year’s, and I said oh yea it's New Year’s,"
Nine minutes later she delivered her baby girl Maisie during an emergency C-section. Maisie was originally supposed to be a Christmas baby with her due date of December 25th, but this birthday will be just as special.
"Shock and awe that was kind of how she came in, and we're going to have to celebrate big in the future to compete," said Yager.
Her two older siblings couldn't be more excited and they already have big plans for their new baby sister.
"I'm going to teach her how to walk," said her big sister.
One things for sure the new year is already proving to be a memorable one for the Yager family.
"We're just feeling incredibly blessed for 2014 and can't wait to see what the year brings," said Yager.
Maisie came in weighing nine pounds and one ounce and measured at 21 inches.
