(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Five Albert Lea businesses did not pass compliance checks for serving alcohol and tobacco this past week.
Police say Applebee's, HyVee sold alcohol to an underage minor, and Cheers Liquor, Korner Mart, and Nelson's Shell sold tobacco to an underage minor.
Police say the common mistake was the workers didn't ask for identification.
The police department conducted the compliance checks on Monday, and for the most part businesses did well. 47 of the companies passed the tests.
Clerks who sell alcohol or tobacco to those underage face fines, even gross misdemeanor charges.
