(ABC 6 News) -- An Austin mother is in tears when her daughter surprises her after serving overseas for months, and we got it all on camera. This can be a difficult time of the year for families with loved ones serving overseas, but one mother's holiday wish came true Friday.

Lyz Dobberstein thought she was doing an interview about an event in Austin, but we were really there for a surprise visit from her daughter who's been in Korea for 20 months. Her daughter and best friend, Danielle, walked up behind her as we were “interviewing” her. “I’ve been planning it for about 2 months," Danielle laughed.

“Everyone from work is probably laughing if they're watching this because I was so convinced she was coming home. I had been having dreams, and in my dreams I would hold her and it felt so real," said Lyz.

Her hunch was right all along, but others were quick to talk her out of it. She even sent Danielle’s Christmas gifts to Korea. "At first, I didn't think she recognized me. She just kind of stared for a minute and I’m like, 'hey mom, it’s me,” said Danielle.

While she holds her daughter tight, Lyz sends a message to other military families. “I want to say to those parents who don't have their soldier home for the holidays, I understand, and may God keep watching over them for you, and I just hope they come home safe," said Lyz.

Lyz’s best friend Kathi had been planning this with Danielle. Kathi even told Lyz they were going to Las Vegas this weekend so she'd take off work. Lyz showed up Friday with her bags packed, but now that Danielle’s home, she’s not going anywhere.

And we were there last Friday when SSG. William Hood surprised his family with an early homecoming.  You can watch that reunion by clicking here.
