(ABC 6 News) -- It's an update to a murder case we've been following.  We've learned the man accused of killing a woman in Northwood Iowa is requesting to represent himself at trial.
Tyrone washington Jr. is now requesting he act as his own attorney on this case.  As we reported, a judge has denied his request for new council.
Washington says the public defender he's been assigned to, Susan Flander, is misrepresenting him.
In several letters Washington wrote to District Court Judge Colleen Weiland, saying Flanders, "not knowing nothing about my case, or the fact that she ain't doing nothing for me, but preparing me for a guilty verdict, it's conflict of interest."

Washington is charged with first degree murder in the stabbing death of Justina Smith.  The mother of two was attacked at a park back in August and later died.

Washington has also asked that his trial be moved claiming bias media coverage would keep him from getting a fair trial.
A judge has moved the trial to Fort Dodge in Webster County.
As for this most recent request to represent himself, a hearing is set for January 6.
