According to the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Michael Zubrod had high levels of methamphetamine in his system when he was found beating a woman, got into an altercation with police, and later died.

The incident happened back in September. According to authorities, Worth County Sheriff Deputies found Zubrod severely beating Rhonda Shukei with a hammer and a pair of scissors.

Deputies tried to subdue Zubrod by using Tasers. During the fight, Zubrod allegedly continually threatened to kill Schukei, as well as the deputies. He also struck one deputy in the leg with a pair of pliers.

According to the IDCIThe deputies were finally able to handcuff Zubrod. While he was handcuffed, and lying on the floor, he became unresponsive, and paramedics were not able to revive him.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner's office ruled the cause of Zubrod's death as “cardiac arrhythmia following an altercation with law enforcement in the setting of acute methamphetamine intoxication”.

Schukei was transported to the Mayo Clinic where she underwent numerous surgeries as a result of stab wounds and blunt force injuries. Schukei has since been released from the Mayo Clinic and is recovering from her injuries.
