MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - A judge has denied a request to move a trial for a man charged with murder in the death of a 20-month-old Mason City boy nearly 20 years ago.

District Judge DeDra Schroeder denied a change of venue motion for 37-year-old Michael Cisneros.

Cisneros' lawyer sought to move the trial because of publicity.

Cisneros is charged with first-degree murder in the death of John Joseph Snyder Jr., who went missing July 20, 1994. His body was found the next day in a creek.

Cisneros was arrested after a DNA sample taken from him in 2012 allegedly matched DNA found on the toddler's pajamas.

Cisneros has pleaded not guilty. He's being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail. Trial is set for Feb. 17.
