(ABC 6 News) - There are nearly a 130 Toys for Tots drop-off locations in southeastern Minnesota. 60 alone in Rochester. Tonight, we talked to Gunnery Sergeant Vince Reynolds, who heads up the local Marine drive. He says this year is more difficult than others.
"The need is increasing every year and we expect this year to be no different," says Reynolds. "But with Thanksgiving being so late in November this year we have one less week, six days basically between Thanksgiving and Christmas."
Two years ago, Toys for Tots served just over 8,000 kids in the region. Last year that number jumped to nearly 11,000.
Speaking of Toys for Tots.... ABC 6 News along with the Furniture Superstore and America's Mattress Company, are working to make this year a little brighter for local children. We've partnered with the Marine Corps Reserve to collect Toys for Tots. This this is a look at what we've collected so far.
You can drop off new, unwrapped toys to the locations on the screen including our studios in Rochester and Austin. All the toys donated go to children right here in our area. We're hoping to make sure no child goes without a toy this holiday season.
