State Patrol Tests Portable Weighers for Commercial Vehicles
(ABC 6 News) -- Some truck drivers in our area went through special inspections today.
Minnesota State Patrol set up a special weigh-in for commercial vehicles off I-35 near Clarks Grove. There are no weigh stations in Southeast Minnesota, so troopers are testing portable weighers.
When a truck drives over the scale, the weight is read through a computer. This makes the process quick, especially for drivers who don't need further inspection.
"As you can see they don't have to stop here," Lieutenant Doug Thoof with the Minnesota State Patrol said. "They drive right over it, and if they're not heavy they just keep going."
Troopers are testing this system to figure out if they will use it in the future in our area.
