65th Street Interchange Nearly Complete
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It's been nearly 16 years since discussion of the 65th Street interchange started. It's nearly complete. Businesses along there could not be more excited.
The brand new interchange has caused quite the confusion for drivers.
"When they started the construction I think we actually saw more traffic because people were getting lost and they thought this was a frontage road," said Maurice Driscoll.
Driscoll's business Gold Crown limousine is located right off 65th street on the west side of 52. With a whole fleet of limos you can imagine the frustrations.
"It's been a challenge just getting gas, we have to go down to 55th street and back and it's kind of like driving in circles," said Driscoll.
They are not the only ones eagerly awaiting the interchanges completion.
Ben Johnson of New Life Worship Center say the construction has made for some frustrated Sunday drivers.
"It takes forever to get here and even if you figure out what roads to take, it still takes more time," said Johnson.
He says the interchange is long overdue.
"You see the church from the highway, it's easy to see, now it's going to be easy to get to," said Johnson.
The interchange isn't just going to make these businesses and drivers happy, it's expected to make developers happy.
"It's going to make it more appealing for others looking to build over here as well," said Driscoll.
For Driscoll the interchange means their drivers will no longer have to drive in circles.
"We'll swing right in here, we're really looking forward to it," said Driscoll.
The total cost of the project was around $12 million dollars. A worker told us they were painting the lines and cleaning up the gear Friday to wrap everything up.
