Crews Remove Austin A&W Sign, Is Change Near?
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Crews Thursday morning removed a prominent long-time fixture from the Austin community. The sign standing tall above the A&W is now gone.
While we still don't know exactly what’s in store for the restaurant property, we have some clues as to what may happen.
As we reported back in May, A&W’s owner decided to close the restaurant, which has been in Austin for the better part of a century.
The land on either side of the property is now owned by Mayo Clinic. We reached out to Mayo officials again Thursday, but they say nothing has been finalized. Geographically the move would make sense, but city leaders have pointed out the location would be good for a number of businesses.
We've also reached out to A&W's owner, Gregg Johnson, but have not heard back as of yet. We'll keep you updated with what we learn.
