E-Cig Ban Takes Another Step Forward in Rochester
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Monday night, the Rochester City Council approved moving a ban on electronic cigarettes forward. Despite other local media reports, city leaders say the ban on e-cigarettes has not been finalized.
There are five areas the city is targeting, that don't fall under the county's rules. They are Peace Plaza, the public library, the Mayo campus, Riverside concerts by the Civic Center, and the city bus shelters.
The first step happened two weeks ago, when the city passed a first reading to the ban at the library. Each item needs three readings in order to become a city ordinance.
Monday night, the library received a second reading, with the remaining four getting a first reading.
Council member Michael Wojcik says at the next meeting, the library e-cigarette will go into effect if passed, and it will take yet a third meeting to enact the ban in the remaining areas.
