Rochester Restricts E-Cigarettes
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- “You’re outside, the air dissipates it as fast as you can exhale it,” said Tory Keefe, owner of Vapin Midwest in Rochester.
The Rochester city council has banned e-cigarettes in five areas: Peace Plaza, The Rochester Public Library, Mayo Campus, bus shelters and riverside concerts by the Civic Center.
“Most of the places where we have these (bans) there’s a lot of kids around, and I think that in both the case of e cigs, which are basically a drug delivery device, they just didn’t want them in the proximity of children,” said Council Man Michael Wojcik.
The vote was a unanimous 7-0 in banning e-cigs in the specified areas. Wojcik said it all started with a request from the library, and he wanted to stay consistent.
“As long as they’re being treated as a tobacco device, I just wanna be consistent in my own community and be fair in how we handle them,” said Wojcik.
Tory Keefe said it probably won’t harm his business, but he still doesn’t understand why the ban is taking place.
“I’m just worried about our government. How many more rules and regulations? How long until flatulence is illegal?” said Keefe.
