NAMI Walk Fundraiser
(ABC 6 NEWS) - The rainy weather couldn't stop some folks in Rochester from getting out to support a good cause.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness held its 20th annual fundraiser walk at RCTC.
While most braved the rain, others decided to stay dry and walked around the field house track. But however they did it, organizers said the walk was intended to raise both money, awareness about mental illness and encourage people to seek treatment.
“We're really trying to break down that stigma and reinforce the message that mental illness is a medical illness just like any other,” said director Courtney Lawson.
The group hoped to raise around 50-thousand dollars.
And while they hadn't counted up all the donations , organizers said they were well on their way to meeting that goal.
